Development of a new analyzer for Single Pair Ethernet and SPoE/PoDL measurements
Background
Recently, Ethernet technology has become popular in the automotive industry to process huge amounts of data such as images, or to seamlessly communicate with external sides. In other industrial fields as well, as factories become smarter, conventional field buses are being replaced with Ethernet to collect and analyze data from sensors and other devices. Single Pair Ethernet (SPE), which can be less expensive than traditional Ethernet, is expected to become more popular in these fields. SPE is a standard that uses a 2-wire, 1-pair cable to communicate, unlike the conventional 4-wire, 2-pair, or 8-wire, 4-pair cables, and provides power (PoDL: PowerOverDataLine) at the same time as data communication. (SPoE: Single Pair Power over Ethernet) is also available. In addition, among the SPE standards, "10BASE-T1S" allows multi-drop communication in addition to conventional point-to-point communication. As its uses are expanding greatly, a device to monitor and evaluate this communication of each of these SPE standards is strongly demanded.
Outline
LINEEYE Co., Ltd. is developing a new analyzer for Single Pair Ethernet measurement that supports measurement and evaluation of the three standards: "100BASE-T1," "10BASE-T1L," and "10BASE-T1S." This device also has an SPoE/PoDL measurement function, and the measured communication data and SPoE/PoDL power amount data can be automatically logged to a USB storage device via USB3.0 connection adding GNSS (PPS) time-corrected timestamps to the data. The recorded data can be checked on the spot on the analyzer's display, so it can be used in a variety of situations for the development and evaluation of Single Pair Ethernet devices.
